In Response To: Thermostat (Sean Burlingham)

Thats what I was thinking too. Ive pulled t-stats from troublseome outboards with little consequnece. I drove an AMC (straight 6 240ci) without a thermostat for years. Heater didn't work so well, but who needs it in SE LA.

I was extremely ticked when the t-stat failed. It happened in the MRGO on the way to Venice after 2 months in the yard at seabrook. We were lucky to have just installed the manual shut downs - avoided major engine overheat. When I asked my mechanic about taking the t-stat out completely, he said no way: "diesels like to run at a certain temp." Even though his advice meant another week of waiting on parts from Sweeden, I was in no position to argue the point.
