A more mildew tolerant alternative to carpet is hull liner. Check with your local canvas shop. Its not as thick as carped therefore doesn't hold the moisture that carpet does. It goes on with a contact type cement and was standard issue in older Topaz V-Berths.
Its cleanable with a shop vac when needed.
