Well, the most overused commercial expression is ...."Value" I run a business that uses lots of equipment. When we started, there was no money for anything. I spent $20,000 on a truck. In the next 18 months, the truck was down 30% of the time and I spent $65,000 on repairs. Made the payments on a new truck look cheap. Sold the old truck for $15,000 bought a new one for....$200,000. Four years later, sold the "new" truck for $120,000, had about 1% downtime and that launched my business.
Value is not price. High capital costs can be easily justified by low operating costs and by the equity built by the value in owning exceptional equipment.
Bruce's point about using suppliers that will look after you cannot be stressed enough. I once owned a BMW marine engine with a leg. Great prouct, grat company, we owned the only one, it sucked to be us when the thing broke down. Great company, good product, wrong sector, wish I'd never been involved. Lesson Learned.
Spend the money with right people, let them make a living, treat them with the same respect and courtesy that you would like to be treated with and you will be a happy boater.
