It's the market at work, baby! I may not like it, you may not like it, but when I read of the numbers Dug puts up there, I remind myself of what "value" means in its purest sense; What a willing buyer (or not so willing in some cases) will pay a willing seller. That's it in a nutshell. Is it right? Maybe, maybe not. With few options, a de facto monopolistic or silent conspiracy is created wherein boatyards, engine manufacturers, outrigger sellers, whatever set pricing at a point that won't foster the competetive system that can drive pricing. In other words, they charge the ridiculous prices to set an engine, replace outriggers or install a swim platform because tehy can. Why do you think I build my own aluminum towers, posts and t-tops? I can pay for it, but I am not a willing buyer in that market. So when you get right down to the question of "what constsitues a good deal?", it's all relative. IMO, there are very few "good deals" out there in the marine world...
