Laminating resin is strictly for bonding two surfaces together and is too thick for wetting out fiberglass...
Actually, the ratio of the hardner has little to do with whether you are using a laminating or layup resin. The key to layup resins is that they are much thinner than laminating resins.
The resin should still be a high solids but much lower in viscosity.
If you're using the West System, use the Pro-Set line of resins and hardners (http://www.prosetepoxy.com/chart1.html). The lower the viscosity, the quicker and more complete the wet out will be.
For other brands, just be sure that the resin is marked for wetting out fiberglass. West confuses the normenclature by using the term "laminating" to also mean "wetting out fiberglass" and "bonding" for laminating two object together...
