John C. My compass is located on the starboard side mounted in the area under the gunnel high,nice and dry. I had no room under my headliner as mine is custom so I mounted my computer under the port gunnel , high and dry. 3 years no problems. My gunnel sides are covered with fiberglass panels.All electronics, compass included ,like to be dry and if your bilge gets flooded where the compass is you will loose your compass.A new compass will cost you $700+. Just some food for thought. Dave K
