eliminating thru hulls

This has probably been dicussed before but here goes. Could you plumb the drains for the engine covers on a 28 into the exhaust? More specifically, take the drain line from the hatch channel and clamp it to a fitting which is glassed into the y pipe. Then the run off just flows out the wet exhasust pipe.I just heard about this recently and thought it was a great idea......but there must be some inherent flaw since you never see this around.
