I don't like any switches out in the open. On AJ all the switches are on two fused panels, one in the overhead electronics box and the other under the stb. f.b. console. The Cummins key switches are all that are on the dash. My B&G large-digit repeater is on the port side of the wheel and the auto pilot head (removable on a curly cord) is on the stb. side of the wheel.
I have the Garmin 2010C mounted in front of the wheel in a super-simple setup and it's perfect. I have a venturi windshield so there is room for it. My VHF, two GPS units, a loran, and the old Raytheon chartplotter are all in the overhead box. The radar is mounted on the port outside of the box, hanging from the uderside of the half tower and the SiTex color sounder matches it on the stb. side. The Icom 802 sideband head is on the inside of the port f.b. console box. Compass is to the port of the wheel and both throttles and shits are on the stb. side. It all fits real nice and makes for a very uncluttered look. I have some pix if you'd like.
