I work in a marina thats been doing Awlgrip for over twenty years and my 25B is Awlgipped.
If you have gelcoat and are using Awlgrip you MUST prime. If you have poly now and have a good surface with good adhesion with a good sanding you can finish paint over. We have no experience with Awlgrip eatting other polys, but it eats up Laquer and Enamel.
On my 25B I used the mid-grade grit non-skid. It was great dry or wet with shoes, but wet barefoot was slippery. I went back with extra course and it is fine. Spraying mix is prefered, rolling out is second but spray or roll with no non-skid and going back with non-skid shaking out on wet surface is what Awlgrip recommends, this is rarely done but it is the ultimate non-skid.
Putting a coat of paint over non-skid will greatly reduce the non-skid effect.Keep Smilin
