From my experence you need 4 pumps. One in the center under the sole in the cabin, one aft of the bulkhead between the engines, the next 2 pumps should be in the transom and both pumps should be on there own circuts and here is why.
When you are running in heavy water in a beam sea you will start taking some water over the transom and the transom pump will start working because you are running bow up.
If that pump stops working for what ever reason the only way to get the water out is to slow down and bring the bow down to get the water to run forward, this is not a good idea so you need a second backup pump to take over if one quits. This happened to us coming hame from block island 2 years ago with Doc and Charlie Haws and some others when we hit rough water off of NYC harbor.
All pumps should be on there own circuts direct to batts wth no switches just fuses and those 31 fuses in the bilges have to go no matter what, that was just a plain stupid idea.
