The autopilot doesn't determine the size of the boat it can handle. The pump does. If you are using the older hynautic type steering system that came with later model B31's buy the larger pump. On our B31 the RPU80 is used and works well. The AP16 is a nice unit and easy to interface with old or new electronics.
There are a couple of tricks with the Simrad pilots:

* Compass location should be as far from interference as possible.
* Rudder feedback sensor installed and zeroed out at set up
* Run the set up as per the book noting any error messages.
* Unless you have power steering always upgrade the pump.

Good Luck
