6BTA Belt Problem

I pulled the head in the SB 6BTA 300 (formerly known as a 315 HP)and found 2 hairline cracks extending between the two valves in each cylinder just north of each injector. I suspect it demonstates that the engine has overheated repeatedly since new in 1989, since the updated water pump assembly was not installed, until now. Given this problem with the SB, I suspect the same is true with the Port.
I conclude, if I want to reliably fish in the Hudson Canyon and return with the two children, it is time to replace both heads.
Am I off base on this one?
