Well, you are all my close friends, and I always respect your views.
We usually don't get this strident here. I run a business too, and have to make a payroll every two weeks. I drive into my parking lot every morning and see all those new cars, way newer than my 97 Tahoe. I pay for those cars, every one of them. If I walk out one day, turn the lites off, and shut her down, them car notes ain't gonna get paid. All 35 or 40 of them.
On the other hand, I would not be where I am without our employees, none of them for sure minimun wage folks. Near half of mine make 6 figures, so we ain't your normal sweat shop.
I was a pipeline welder's helper in college, and a union member, or at least paid my dues. I understand. Cheap overseas labor has, and will continue to change the way our economy works. To compete with that cheap labor, we have to wrok smarter. Be more efficient. Look at UPS and FedEx. The bulk of their employees are union, and they kick ass. UPS is owned by the employees, they are union, and I'll kiss your ass if you can show me a UPS driver not trotting rather tahn shuffing along.
The point I'm making is that many of us own and run businesses that employ a lot more, but some of us are union guys that work their butts off, and we are all the same deep down. We own Bertrams. That separates us from the real debate. We own Bertrams.
