Harv....Does this mean you're not gonna bring the mozzarella and lox to Atlantic City for me next year??!! I take it all back!!

Seriously....I grew up in a union family. I think PBA was the first thing I could spell. And, yes, there are thieves on both sides of this fence who should go to jail. That's what we have UV for.

But consider this.....one of the most common assignments we get as benefit consultants, from clients of all types, is to do "benchmarking" studies. Translation....tell me how my company's benefits, pay, time off, etc. etc., compares to other companies like mine....in the same industry, region, size category, etc. We have an army of little MBA's who do that research every day. The typical client's goal is to be right in the middle of the pack, unless a company has a specific reason to want to give more or less.

Now, it's a very safe bet that both the union and the MTA have benchmarking info up the wazoo. The union knows full well what's going on in the private sector, in other unions (like yours), and other government groups. They gotta know how good they have it, especially considering what they do. Sure, running a train is a big responsibility, but the engineers and conductors are a real small % of the group. So why, I ask, do these people think they should be treated so much better than everybody else?? Answer....it's like UV said recently about why a dog licks his d- - k.....because he can. The transit workers know they have the power to stick up the city, so they do...and that's wrong. And, yes, I agree that the MTA plays games. But rather than punish 7 million people on a week like this, or anytime, there should be a mechanism for binding arbitration that precludes a strike.

Anyway...it looks like the whole thing is gonna be over soon, hopefully for at least another 25 years (yeah, I lived through the 11 days of hell in 1980, too). So we can agree to agree or disagree, but you just bring the mozzie and lox next year, and I'll bring the prosciutto and peppers. Deal?
