Hope this helps. It's not real conventional but some use it and it works for me. 58 gallon aux (SS) installed on port towards rear. I ballest it with weight on the starboard side. Partially the holding tank and then all my lead weights for buoys etc plus ballast. You could and has been done is to use two 50 gallon tanks in the same position. My capacity is 288 gallons usable now. Great for my long runs . Yes I'm Diesel I've gone 300 miles already without refueling and still had 41 gallons left! But that was only two people aboard but still a lot of ice and gear. One thing you have to consider is more weight with the extra fuel. It will or it has on my fuel consumption has taken a very small amount away. I've gone from avg 1.22 KMPG to 1.17 KMPG now. I have no listing effect what so ever in that position with the ballast.
