If you are raw water cooled, I bet its the mating surface. Pull the mani's, inspect, acid dip, inspect again, and clean up the surfaces real well before re-install. Change the oil, run for a bit, and change again. Then, do a check it out with a longer run.

With our water, acid wash the risers after two seasons and think about throwing away at year 3 or 4. Mani's - acid wash every other year as well, and if you get five years (assuming you actually run the boat), you are on borrowed time.

Another issue is the carbs. If they are Q-Jets, after a while, they just get plugged up from salt/alum. corrosion. This will limit the rpms and make it run almost like you have a blown motor. Fresh carb rebuild and you might be back in business.

The other lesson - never just work on one unless its an emergency. If one has an issue, the other is just minutes, hours, or days behind.
