Rob - the Orleans Marina is on the lakefront at West End, sort of at the lake end of West End blvd. Most of West End got torn up pretty bad. The further east you go from there on the south shore of the lake the worse it is. While the "high" areas along the river did not flood too bad, driving around the heart of the city makes you wonder how it will ever do anything but rot away. The "official" number is that 205,000 housing units were destroyed. That is a number that is hard to get your head around until you drive for miles and miles and see nothing but blocks and blocks of destroyed houses. And no people at all. Like a movie set. And with the levee and pump situation, and Mother Nature at work sinking the place, it will happen again, and my view is soon.
