Rob,
I bought a B28 this past year. Love it. Bottom line is what do you want to do with your boat?I wanted a boat that was big enough to go off shore with 4-5 guys and fish all day here in South FL. I also wanted to "weekend" with my wife and 2 teenage kids. I didn't want one so big that I couldn't enjoy pulling up to the beaches of our islands down here with <4 ft of water. I couldn't afford the $100K++ they're asking for some of these go-fast CC's like YellowFin, Fountain, SeaVee, Palmetto.
When I started looking at options, I came across the B28 and remembered how I used to oogle them as a teenager. As I started to research, I found it to be one of the BEST BUYS on the market. You can find them in decent shape from $21 - 50+K. I did my research on the internet and made a list of about 16 boats in FL that I actually drove to see. I put almost 4,000 miles on my car in a 6 week period looking at all of them. I narrowed down my search to the top 3 that were in "turn-key" condition. Made my offer and got a great deal.
I agree with everyone's comments about the small cabin... not the lap of luxury, but probably the biggest cabin you'll find in a 28 foot boat. I also agree, the 31 is not any better. You really have to move up to 35 feet to start getting a real salon and some elbow room.
If you decide to move up to the B28, I don't think you will be disappointed.
