The GFO packing really does work. Don't waste the time and effort to switch out to the dripless bladders seals.
Clean the stuffing boxes thoroughly. Then add 4-7 rings of the GFO, as much as will fit, and follow their directions to seat it. You won't be sorry.
That advice goes for your engine shafts only.
For the rudders, put in 2 rings of regular flax packing (not teflon- NEVER use teflon packing in rudders) then 3-4 rings of GFO, then 2 rings of regular packing again. Basically in the rudder glands you make a ring of GFO to squeeze between the regular packing. Then squeeze it just enough to stop the leaks.
The GFO warrants periodic inspection, and may need a little tweaking here and there, but is much better than the dripless shaft seal that will eventually leak fast and forever if left unchecked.
