I completely forgot about the STP treatment. My old marina still does it. Get a can of STP and a cheap brush. Just before you launch, paint your shafts and wheels with a good coat of the molasses/honey-like STP. They claim it inhibits marine growth as it creates a surface it can't stick to. Our seasons are shorter than yours in the warmer climes so I don't know if it might have to be done again mid-season. Walter
