That's what they make a dipstick for.
=========================================
The 4.2 is european in origin and has been used there for a few years.The problem being here is since it is more of a Merc design using a stern drive, merc dealers are supposed to handle it but almost all do not have any diesel people.
The established Cummins dealers that I know do not want to get involved with that small stuff and certainly don't want outdrive repairs.
I would call and find out who will service it, then call that servicing dealer and make sure they are equipted to handle it. And I don't mean just a hearty yes to sell you the engine.
Go to the dealer and check for yourself that they are setup to handle the engine and are not going to play the Cummins Merc back and forth game.And don't pay attention to anything they told or tell you at a boat show. Most don't know their ass from 1st base or will spout some company bull that the marketing people dreamed up.
