QSB Update

Splashed the latest 31 refit with the QSB's this week.
Initial startup was not with out some minor computer glitches, but after a few hours of tinkering they were solved.
Electric shifting was incorporated into this setup and I had to change the valve plate on the back of the gears.
Programming was easy despite the number of computers, junction boxes and wiring. Most everything was plug and play and Cummins/Merc and glendenning seem to have done their jobs.
Electric pumps on the engines make fuel bleeding a breeze. Just make sure there is fuel in the tank.
The display screens have so much information and display options its almost too much.
Engines started right up. As indicated they are every bit as quiet as Yanmars. The distictive Cummins clatter is gone.
No leaks or problems so far at the dock.
The Glendenning single lever controls need to be redesigned for mounting from behind. I modified their intended mounting because I felt it was not rigid enough.
Knowing that in heavy seas the wheel and controls sometime become a leaning post or grab post, I felt better with my redesign. Alot more solid.
The control functions performed with high marks. They are smooth with excellent shift detents and response is instant.
There is a one second delay on shifting in gear, but that is in the valving and solenoid assembly which is provide by ZF.The shifting is smooth and noise free.
Sea trials will begin next week and I'll report back with some performance and fuel burn figures.
All in all despite Wilma, some tropical fronts, a bunch of added work, it was not too bad.
I am still a bit concerned on how all this electronics will hold up down the line considering the general care a boat gets.
