MMO will work on the upper ring only and only coat the cylinder thats above the piston. If you have a piston all the way at the top, then a good part of the wall will be left unprotected and can develope rust depending on how the engine was stored.
What I've done on engines that will be stored for years is, drain the oil and put fresh in with an additive that makes it stick to surfaces more, Lucas product.
Run the engine till hot and shut down.
When cool, pull injectors and put a light coating of MMO in the cylinders and turn the engine a few revolutions. Then fill up the cylinders where they are and put injectors back in.
I then put extra oil into the engine to cover the crank.
Then remove air intake and fog the turbo.
Then bypass the intercooler if it has one and fog the engine intake into the valve area.
I do the same for the exhaust side with fogging oil. Then seal them up good with covers and duct tape.
Then I spray a heavy fog into the crankcase to coat any internal parts not immersed in oil.
I seal off any outside crankcase venting to the atmosphere basically making the engine air tight.
The last thing I do is to put a red tag on the engine stating the excess oil in the crankcase and oil in the cylinders is present and to remove before trying to start.
