On my old 72 Bertram 25 there was no steel or any metal in the tank. I know I cleaned it twice.I would see no purpose for that strap provided the oval bronze plate that Bertram uses is grounded to the bonding system. I put a Racor water seperator /fuel filter on mine and had no problems after that. I was constanly getting junk in the Racor from the fuel. I still get some stuff in the Diesel on my 31 but not as much as the contaminant from the old gasser. Dave K
