These roots that the knees are gorowing off of are about a few to as much as 8" under the ground. I'd have to dig to find them, clear the dirt out to use a sawsall. Mike, the nibbler probably the same issue, plus not enough gap in the bite. A little stump grinder would do the trick for sure. The more my back hurts from choping about 10 with a pick ax, the more the little stump grunder with its own operator seems the way to go. The knees are real soft wood. I figured an air hammer with a wide, real sharp blade, would sever the roots if you just went all around the knee, no need to figure out exactly where the root goes in and out. I have some knees that are a foot or 18" long and 6" wide since they have been whacked for years by the fat lawn lady's big commercial mower and have decided to grow out rather than up.
