Hey Harv, been at the camp as usual freezing my ass off. COLD for Coonassland. Me & the Bride went over there Friday about noon and it was 40 inside and windy and colder feeling outside. Anyway, burned a lot of firewood and kilowatts this weekend, but had the usual non-stop party.
Now for the advice part. Our camp is on Cypress Drive on the Tickfaw, so it's got a bunch of cypress trees in the yard. Cypress trees make cypress knees that stick up thru the grass and make walking (or mowing the grass) a bitch. They come up a good way from the trees. A cypress knee is just a big spot on a little root, it has no root of its own. So is you cut the root going into it and the root coming out of it, you can dig it out of the ground, fill the hole and let the grass cover it. The standard method of removing them is to take a pick axe with a wide blade and chop till you get the "in" and "out" roots then pry it up. That is backbreaking. I was thinking about using an small air hammer with a wide, say 3", blade maybe a foot long and just chisel around the knee, cut the roots, then pry it out. I can't seem to find a wide, long blade in the standard .401" taper for a automotive body shop type air hammer. I figure there is no better place to ask. Or anyone got some better suggestions for removing cypress knees?
