Tony - it's an aluminum box with louvers in it and a low wattage electric heating coil inside. It works on the principle that hot air rises and circulates the air. The fancy ones have a little fan in them to speed up the circulation process. I have a square one that is about 75 or 100 watts and it gets warm to the touch, but won't burn anything. All the marine supply places sell them - Worst Marine, Consumers, etc.

As for the photo tach, scroll way down and find the thread on photo tachs and see Al Gillen's post and the link to it. Whoa - I just pulled the invoice out of the box, so here you go, I'll post the link below. It's model DT-2234B by Digital Specialists, Inc. of Mesa, AZ and costs 39 bucks plus 10.96 shipping so 49.96 at my door. Nice unit, very easy to use and repeatable accuracy to near nothing.
