Just tested in on a high speed application, the bench grinder, and it shows 3580 rpm consistent, then when you turn it off and it spools down, the tach follows it right down. Drill press is set on a low speed, and showed 680.5 rpm. Fooled me at first since the decimal point is hard to see without my big glasses. All you do it put a little pc. of reflective tape on the rotating part and shoot it. Acutally I tried just some masking tape and it worked just as good. I suspect any light colored mark will work. Neat tool and who'd ever thought they could make them that cheap.
