John, those 315's, being 6 cylinders, will be both taller and longer than your current 4 bangers, amking the one level deck a much harder concept to bring to reality - even with the talent of Capt. Pat! Personally, I'm amazed you got the engine boxes down as low as they already are. Hope it works out, but you might consider the slightly raised eck a trade off for more speed and newer engines.

I'm off today, I'll try to give you a call, once I get some rat-killing done. Trying to wrap up the loose ends on a ling article for Sportfishing this morning. That, and get the wife's washing machine fixed. I lead a glamorous life!
