Ouch, Dug, but no one got hurt is the good news. Years ago I was involved in representing a group of banks, some failed (Uncle Banks) and some still going, that had financed a high rise office building that was about 80% complete when the crooks that had borrowed the money went tits up and to jail. The syndicate of banks took it over and finished it and was trying to lease space when huge panels of green tinted glass from the experior curtain wall began detaching and crashing a few hundred feet into the street and parking areas. Panels say 10x20 feet, just came loose and crashed down. Panic city, engineers hired, street cordoned off (real good for the leasing effort) and it turned out that the crooks had cut some corners and used some sort of off-brand gasket material in the curtain wall attachment system that was failing. You think restoring a B31 is expensive, the fix was a ball-buster. My syndicate sucked it up, fixed it, then sold and took a huge bloodbath. The guy that was in charge for all the banks just shrugged his shoulders and told me "Vic, sometimes you just have to say F**k IT, lick your wounds and haul ass".
