Wayne,
Walter is right that it should have peeled off rather easily. Generally when the protective paper on acrylic won't peel it's because it has gotten wet or subjected to dew or high humidity.
The paper then becomes weak and won't sheet the adhesive with it. The adhesive is low tack and is akin to paper cement, (holds as much from vacuum as stickiness).
Try pushing it off with the flat of your finger. It should roll up under pressure & forward push.
Many solvents that may soften the adhesive will only gum it up and smear it onto the acrylic. Most chemical solvents will also damage the acrylic, even causing it to craze...
Try soap and water to wash away the paper and a rubber cement pickup pad, (gum rubber), to attack the adhesive film after the surface is dried. Pressure and a pulling action would be the technique here.
I just ran a test on a piece of paper still bonded to the acrylic using compressed air shot under the paper at about a 30° angle. Worked fine, but hen the paper is in very good condition.
Paper that's gotten damp or wet will usually have a wrinkled surface...
Br,
Patrick
