Ric,
If you are going to use 300w or 500w halogen lamps make sure they are 130v lamps because they will last longer than 120v lamps and are not as likely to burn-out to power surges as 120v lamps. I use (2)-12v/50wMR16 halogen flood lamps which are 5,000 hr. lamp life and are small enclose in composite resin fixture which are sealed and mounted to my tower. For every 100watts equals 1-amp of power draw against your generator. Mine are very bright for only 100w of 12v power draw on battery's. Go to a Lighting Showroom and have somebody there show you the difference and compare not a Homecenter because they don't know #!*^ about what there talking about. I think you will be impressed on how they stack up. My lights have never rusted and have been on my boat for over 10 years and only burned out 1 bulb since. I'am in the lighting business.
