Ric - go AC and use the 500 watt Hella units. Cheap, like 25 bucks a shot. I used two of them off the back of my half tower and the housings did not last too good, but that was pre-CX and Tef-Gel. The stainless fastenings in the aluminum went to crap without Tefgel. I got some new ones last year and did the tefgel and CX number on them. Lee's sells an anodized aluminum clamp for spreader lights that clamps on the tower pipes - real nice unit. I overkilled and got two for each 500 watt Hella. My two 500's will blind a one-armed Grosbeak with a big navel. No way you can get that kind of light out of a 12v unit.
As for remote control spotlights, I have a pretty cheap one on top of the half tower and it works about half ass. Looked kinda beat up after the hurricane, so may upgrade.
