That warm smell of oil

Has anyone noticed a distinct smell of warm engine oil with the Cummins 6B engines. At times in the cabin or engine well area it smells pretty oily depending on the wind and so on.
I opened the hatches and found the culprit to be the crank case vent tube. It vents exactly at each port side engine mount (that's forward left side of the engine looking from the back)
I'd like to re-route the line back and close (1-2") to the air filter so at least the fumes are being pulled out (recycled). Has anyone done this or had the same issue. If so what was your solution. Thanks
JP
