AJ report

Just returned from the yard in New Ortleans where I inspected AJ. All things considered, she appears in remarkably good shape. She appears to have taken a pretty good lick on the stb. forward half tower supports, and two are broken. The f.b. windshield is broken, but saw little else in the way of damage. She is sitting on a heavy timber cradle sideways and the stb. list is from that. She is resting against the winch stand on a big boat trailer against her stb. bow below the boot stripe with no apparent damage to the hull. The port wheel, shaft, and rudder are off the floor and the wheel and shaft rotate freely with no apparent wobble, so I suspect they never contacted the floor. The stern is resting on the stb. wheel and rudder and I'm sure the wheel is bent some, can't tell about the shaft or rudder. Appear to have a crack in the port side window.
I think what saved her from a lot of beating up was that three Avon inflatables were next to her and acted as big fenders keeping the other boats from hitting her or vice versa. The yard owner is having to send his big forklift out for repars and thinks about another two weeks to get the mess out of the building. He had his 77 ton Travelift running and picking up damaged boats and blocking them in the yard.
The damage in N.O. especially east of the 17th street canal is total. Miles and miles of houses that were flooded up to the rooftops. Also much more wind damage that you see from the air. This was my first time on the ground there and it is much worse than I expected. The huge Trinity Yachts plant next door to the Seabrook Marine yard where AJ is located is near total destruction. There are large yachts strewn all over.
I took some photos and will sort them out after while.
