In Response To: Re: Looking for 10 degree struts (JP)

John,
My 1961 express (14,500 pounds lots of glass) has 10 degree struts with 1 1/4" shafts. Had new struts cast at Buck Algonquin in 1996 $ 800 for the pair back then. The biggest wheel you will be able to turn is 17"x 18" props. Anything bigger will cause cavation burns on the hull bottom, need aleast 1 1/2" between prop tip and hull bottom. New engines in 1997 are Mercruiser 310 hp throttle body fuel injections with 1:5:1 Hurth 630 8 degree down angled trannies. The original 413 Chyslers were direct drive turning 16x11 3 blade props, top speed with old setup was 30mph wide open, not very efficient 60 gph at wide open. With new setup top end is 41mph @ 4300 rpms with cruise at 30mph at 3000 rmps 25 gph max. fuel burn, 3 bladed matched Nibral 17x18 with light cup. I wouldn't move struts forward it will throw off the balance and handling of the boat. Hope this helps.
