I don't bash Yanmars, I merely point out their engineering false marketing claims and operational flaws. ;-) As far as mig welding aluminum, I'm a purist. I don't care for mig welding in any area on any metal that is to be a "finished" product, ie, one that needs no further work. Mig spatters and although there are products that can reduce the spatter and prevent it from contaminating the finished piece, I prefer tig welding. Also, Patrick metions th euse of pure argon as the preferred alternative. For thin aluminum, I'd agree, but if you're trying to weld heavier stock such as sch. 40 or bigger, I like Alumashield gas which is a helium/argon mix. It welds much faster and penetrates better, but you sacrifice some of the cleaning properties of argon. Welding is something of a black art. You like what you like for different reasons and very few techniques/equipment choices are across the board right for everyone. Good luck on your project...
