H. Wilma is coming onshore just south of Naples, FL as a solid Cat3.
Wilma is a very large storm with a broad wind field. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 90 miles from the center of a 45 mile wide eye. That's a 180 mile swath that will be cut across the state during the next 6 - 8 hours.
I went to generator power at 05:45 so that I wouldn't have to venture out later when the s*it is hitting the fan. First power flicker just happened a few minutes ago, so it won't be long before it's down for the count.
Did a full chopper job on the 4.2kw gen set... Removed the exhaust header, cut the muffler off, welded an extended stainless steel exhaust pipe, & 2 additional support brackets. Cut a round hole in the mechanical bay overhead door to exit the exhaust, & re-attached the muffler with a removable clamp. Made a generous heat shield from a couple of large coffee cans and wraped that with fiberglass batting.
Have two extension cords, one to the fiberglass bay & one to the main bay. So I've got all the basic power needs covered, including fridge, lighting, TV, ventilation, computer, & CCTV security monitor.
Calling for a solid Cat2 on this coast, but should be cleared out by around 14:00 - 15:00. Weather looks drop dead gorgeous for the next several days.
Bring on the Flophouse. Bring a light jacket & long pants, lows in the mid-60s...
Br,
Patrick
