If you have been using it and had no trouble that is great, the concern with detergent oils is that in an old engine it will lift and suspend carbon deposits circulating grit throughout the engine. Since you have been using it for that long your motor is probably as clean as a whistle inside. I do use 15-40 in gas motors as well, but only if I've had them sine new.
