Repainting the bilge around an engine

I know this topic has been covered many time in the past, however I have to bring it up again since this is one of the projects that I didn't think that I would be doing.

The good news is that I am probably looking at less than 10 yrs. of engine and bilge goop rather than the usual 30 or so. Since my port engine is out for a few weeks, I figure it would be worthwhile to give the space under and around it a fresh coat of paint. The other good news is that the prior owner had aluminum pans fabricated for under the engines.

What prep work should I be prepared to do and what type of paint should be used. Right now I have a "bilge gray," which I understand is made by Interlux.

Any experience or tips with this project would be greatly appreciated!!!
