Garmin GPS to PC Connection

Does anyone have any idea of how to use my pc and GPS unit to plot courses at home ... What power source and or cables do I need...The website is ambigious . I saw a short film on comcast cable TV on demand.. It was how to use a Garmin GPS and how this guy plots directly to the unit. Sounds nice ...If it works
