I have a 1969 Bahia Mar with the original straight 6 165 hp engine. You can probably assume your transom is somewhat wet, but in my discussions with Capt. Patrick about it, he advised me that the B-20's were built with plenty of glass in the transoms and unless I planned to put in a more powerful engine, not to be too concerned about it.
If you're upgrading from a Whaler, you'll like the lockable storage space the Bahia Mar has and your family will like the ability to have a Porta Potty or Marine head in the space between the Vee-berths.
You probably won't like the awkward bow access from both the inside (I'm 6' 220 lbs) or the slightly outward sloping gunwales on the outside.
Other than that, It's extremely comfortable with plenty of space to move around in.
I have a foldable boarding ladder on the port side and an accessory kicker bracket on the starboard side. I'm sure it can handle an outboard if you redid the transom, but I wouldn't be so quick to cancel out the idea of a platform mounting until you've heard from some of our B-20 experts.
As far as hull foam moisture, I'm sure the seller isn't going to let you drill holes through the stringers or cut hatches through the floor. A surveyer's moisture meter would be the way to go.
I don't know what purpose the foam had except to add weight when it got wet which it inevitably seems to get. The hull is solid and thick enough not to need it, but again, wait to hear from some of the guys who have completely gutted their B-20's. Walter
