Stranger Things...

As mentioned earlier in my post about keeping an eye on 22/Vince, "stranger things have happened...". Well 22 fell apart within 24 hours as somewhat expected & didn't get a chance to be named Vince.

However, Sunday morning a TD popped up southeast of the Azores & southwest of Spain. It got the name Vince, became a TS, then Hurricane Vince with 75 mph winds. Late last night, Vince made landfall as a tropical storm in Spain just southeast of Portagul.

I guess that pretty much qualifies as a "Stranger Thing" to happen...

From the last NHC Discussion"

"...AS THE SHORT HAPPY LIFE OF VINCE IS NOW OVER...THIS WILL BE THE LAST ADVISORY. THE REMNANTS OF VINCE SHOULD CONTINUE ON A TRACK NEAR 065/20 UNTIL DISSPATION OR ABSORPTION DURING THE NEXT 6 TO 12 HOURS.

THE HISTORICAL RECORD SHOWS NO TROPICAL CYCLONE EVER MAKING LANDFALL ON THE IBERIAN PENINSULA. BASED ON SURFACE REPORTS FROM FARO PORTUGAL...THE CENTER PASSED JUST TO THE SOUTH OF THE COAST OF PORTUGAL...BEFORE BECOMING THE FIRST TROPICAL CYCLONE TO MAKE LANDFALL IN SPAIN."

Summary of the 2005 Hurricane Season to date:

Historical - 2005 season is the 2nd most active on record with 20 storms, following only 1933's 21 storm season. (Still time to tie or break that record...)

2005 season the most destructive & disruptive season on record, & one of the deadliest, thanks to Katrina.
