Offshore Trip 10-8&9 Gulf

Well folks. After waiting 6-7 weeks with questionable or down right bad weather I braved it Sat & Sun to the deep six of SW FL to the 200 foot contour.Sat was head on into 6-8 footers. Over the bow up into the bridge . Only 10 knot headway. But still very doable in our 31's. Red tide made my allergies act up and a sick captain prevailed but not to stop a diehard fisherman. My local weather guru was right on the money as it settled to 3 footers from midday Sat for the rest of the trip. Taking them head on let's you know where your hardware weak points are that's for sure.

My starboard Lee Sr. outrigger came loose at the base( swivel pin came out) and put a scratch stb where the front window used to be. Minor compared to a broken window which could of happened.

Red tide here is all the way to 25 miles offshore. No bait fish, no sea turtles, no nothing. Had to use my livewell with the intake off and an external oxygen pump. It worked . All my saved bait and purchased live bait kept. Sat no fish at 90 nautical miles offshore , go figure. Sun slammed em in 128 feet in an hour long feeding frenzie. Nothing on my flying fish lure yet. But I'm confident of it. All bottom fishing succeded with a limit of Red Grouper in 1 hour. Man patience pays.

So rough going out that an old cutout repair (where the old bow running light's were) fell out. I now have a nice round hole foward to fix.

Big thing is my passangers were all impressed how well the 31 took the seas. They were in reasonable comfort while the captain on the bridge was taking the brunt of it.

New 1.8 cu. ft. refegerator I installed works great on the inverter. Run it with engine on with no problems current draw (12 amps at run)

The Can Do It is happy it had a good 200 mile run in 31 weather. Cheers and tight lines.. Dave K
