Phil,

Yes, just about any dry powder including dirt can be mixed with either resin system, including vinylester.

Use a fair amount of Cabosil, (West fumated silica), to keep the fillet from sagging.

You say your friend is out of epoxy, so he's gonna' use polyester... Be sure he knows that he can NOT add a polyester resin over eopxy and hope for it to stick. It won't.

You can use epoxy over either ester system, but not vise versa...
