Phil- I have the kind of hinges that slide apart on their pins so that you can have complete access all around the engines. They are set up so they can be pulled midships-ie: the port hatch must be pulled to starboard to remove, and the starboard hatch pulled to port to remove. Neither can be pulled/removed until the hatch is lifted open.

The hinges were on the boat when I bought it over 25 years ago and have never caused me any sort of problem. I suspect they're Perko as I have discovered many of the pieces on the boat were. Walter
