I've tried every cable lube device out there and they are like shoving 10 pounds of crap in a 2 pound bag.
If a cable gets to a point that it binds, yank it out and replace it. They ain't expensive.
Use a good water proof grease for the helm head. Don't use a lithium grease. It will dry and cake.
remove cable at rudders and see if the bind lets up. Then look at the pivot points on the rudder arms and make sure the rudder shelves and supports arn't rotted causing a bind. Common problem on old Bertrams that ain't been redone.
While cable steering ain't hydraulic, it does work okay for the 31 and is cheap to replace the head and cable.
But if you have to replace it and have extra cash, go with UV on the sea star.
