Know the lube fitting well... As you implied, over engineered & costly, except to be included in a professional mechanic's tool box, the average Joe won't use it more than once in a life time.

The model that works on the Morse engine control cables is a real necessity for lubing those cable since there's very little room between the cable & the housing.

Still, changing out a cable with a new one is far better than trying to grease up an old kinked up rusty one...
