Had the identical problem on a pair of 454's many years ago. Inside of suction hose had delaminated and made a "flap" that would only close when engine was running. Drove me nuts cause you could remove the hose and look right through it. I suspect that your steam is humidity tho if the temps are normal on the gagues. Do the heat gun shoot anyway and record the numbers for future reference. Handiest tool in the box.
