Doc,

On a nice day in anything up to about 70ft, I will usually go up on the bow and pull the anchor myself. We also carry the bouy retrieval system on the boat and have pulled the anchor in at the cockpit many times. There is also another method we use which is to simply put the boat in reverse and leave the line tied to the bow cleat. The flukes of the anchor will act like foils raising the anchor to the surface and then pulling it in is a snap. As for the pulpit.....I just happen to like the way my varnished teak looks on the front of my boat.
